Starting the Tutorial and Bandit Quests

Spawning into the game places your character at level 0 on Starter Island. The on-screen guide directs you to talk to the starting NPC named SA to accept your first assignment. This opening mission requires you to defeat five bandits roaming right outside the starting courtyard. Finishing this introduction unlocks the Complete The Tutorial badge and gives you the Novice title.

Combat at early levels relies on standard melee punches or basic weapon swings. Each defeated bandit grants experience, coins, and a chance to drop bandit souls. The quest interface includes an automatic repeat button directly below the tracker. Enabling repeat allows you to farm the required bandit kills without walking back to the quest giver after every completion.

Leveling up awards stat points that you can distribute into strength, defense, stamina, sword, or devil fruit. Allocating points into defense increases your survivability against multi-target agro, while strength directly scales your basic melee punches. If you prefer broader progression strategies across subsequent islands up to the level cap of 245, review the beginner guide for general build planning.

Starter Island Progression Quests

Starter Island features several non-combat tasks alongside typical enemy grinding. Progressing past level 10 introduces gathering and maintenance chores that cycle every few levels until you reach the island boss.

  1. Fruit Gathering (Levels 10 to 20): Speak to the quest NPC near the orchard to collect ten fruits directly from the trees. Aggressive monkeys patrol the grove and attack when you interact with fruit spawns. Defeat or avoid them while picking up apples and pineapples.
  2. Cutlass Bandits (Levels 20 to 30): Shift to stronger armed bandits located past the orchard. These enemies carry cutlasses and drop basic weapon drops along with soul materials.
  3. Lumber Gathering (Levels 30 to 35): Purchase an iron axe from the local equipment merchant for 95 cash. Equip the axe from your inventory and strike five marked trees until their durability reaches zero. Striking unmarked trees will not register quest credit.
  4. Barn and Horse Feeding (Levels 35 to 40): Visit the farm stall and buy an iron hoe for 150 cash. Harvest hay bales across the barn yard, speak with the stable hand to convert the hay into feed bags, and hand the feed to each of the designated horses.

Starter Island Combat Setup Choices

New players must decide how to spend their starter funds before setting out on the ocean. The table below outlines the primary offensive setups available across the initial island levels.

Starter Combat OptionBest SituationCost or Acquisition Requirement

Defeating the Starter Boss Higorou

Reaching level 40 unlocks the final mission on Starter Island: eliminating the boss Higorou. He spawns in an open arena near the cliff edge on a one-minute timer. Higorou deals substantial melee damage and can break combos if you trade hits recklessly. Keep a moderate distance between combo strings and evade his forward strikes.

Higorou drops several items upon defeat:

  • Higorou Mask: An accessory providing bonus survivability stats.
  • Higorou Sword: A rare early-game weapon with a 20% drop rate that unlocks special sword techniques at mastery levels 10 and 20.
  • Rigarou Soul: A crafting and unlock material that drops with a 100% guarantee.
  • Teleport Crystal: A consumable item allowing instant fast travel between unlocked island destinations.

Repeat this boss encounter until you reach level 45, which finishes your progression on Starter Island and prompts the navigation arrow to point toward Jungle Island.

Unlocking Island Secrets and Preparing to Sail

Before taking to the sea, several vendors and specialty trainers around Starter Island offer utility upgrades. Behind the windmill, an NPC named Robin Lucci teaches Flash Step, a short-range teleport ability mapped to the R key. Purchasing Flash Step requires 5,500 cash, 15 basic bandit souls, 15 Higorou bandit souls, and 5 Rigarou souls collected from the boss.

Nearby along the shoreline, an NPC teaches the Black Leg fighting style for 15,000 cash, providing kick-based melee skills once leveled through mastery. At the town dock, an island merchant sells the local Log Pose to track your position, alongside boats ranging from cheap wooden sloops to caravel models.

Once you reach level 50 on the neighboring Jungle Island, return to the Do-Gooder Store on Starter Island to access the fruit gacha. The gacha merchant charges 10,000 cash per random fruit roll, with stock rolling on a set timer. After picking up your transport and movement abilities, sail south toward Jungle Island to continue your journey.
